4 Important Criteria When Choosing a School!

Don’t get stuck somewhere that doesn’t fit you — learn how to pick the right education! Here are four important criteria that you should consider before submitting your applications.

CAMPUS LOOK & FEEL

Can you see yourself having a great time at this campus?

At college or university, you will likely be on campus three to five days of the week (or all of them if you live in a residence). Different schools have different atmospheres: Are you looking for a school with bustling city life? Great study hall atmosphere? A place to meet people or party? Or a campus with amazing green spaces?

TRANSPORT

Many international students aren’t driving themselves to class. How will you get around?

Travelling can make or break your college experience, so keep an eye out for it. Here in Canada, most colleges are accessible by commuter train or bus. Find out how long it will take to travel from your place to wherever you need to go, depending on the day and time.

CURRICULUM

What courses does your college offer?

For example, many schools offer a great business degree but the classes and teaching styles may be different, and graduates from different universities might specialize in different things. Study carefully the curriculum that a program offers. For a business degree, some schools can have a focus on digital and design marketing, and some will focus on helping students become employable right after graduation. TIP: Look at job descriptions of careers you are interested in to find out what skills and competencies are required, and make sure your program can help you get there.

ACCEPTANCE RATE AND DEADLINE

Do you have enough time and qualifications to get into your school?

Acceptance time is longer for some schools and shorter for others. Additionally, specialized degrees such as Data Science or Health Science can be competitive. You may be required to submit your application far in advance. Give yourself plenty of time and different options.
