All the ways you can pursue your Accounting education with MNSU.

Are you great with budgets, managing money, or have a natural affinity for numbers? If you are, you have probably thought about a career as an accountant. Whether it is taxation, public practice, corporate accounting, management accounting, or consulting, Minnesota State University, Mankato’s (MNSU’s) College of Business has you covered for your undergraduate major or minor, master's degree, or certification.

Master of Accounting (MAcc)

The one year program, available through MNSU’s Mankato and Edina campuses, provides students with the 150 credit hours required by the state of Minnesota to write the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. 150 credits are derived from 120 credits obtained during an undergraduate degree, and 30 credits obtained through the MAcc program. Courses are each worth two credits, five courses are mandatory with a selection of other courses for students. Coursework focuses not just on advanced accounting skills, but also on professional leadership, management, and technical instruction.

Graduate Certification in Taxation (GCT)

Available for MAcc and non-degree students, the GCT program is for students and professionals who already have education or work experience in accounting and seek to further their knowledge of taxation and taxation practices. The program requires the completion of five courses, each worth two credits – one mandatory course, and the remaining four can be chosen from six available courses.

Bachelor of Science in Accounting

The four-year program available through MNSU’s Mankato campus, provides a mix of business, management, accounting, economics, and social science courses for students. To qualify for admission for a major in Accounting, students must meet the admission and business foundation requirements outlined by MNSU. To graduate from the program, students must earn a minimum grade of ‘C’ or a GPA of 2.0 in all Accounting and Business Law courses.

Minor in Accounting

A minor in Accounting can be had by completing 18 credits and achieving a minimum GPA of 2.50, at MNSU’s Mankato campus. Eligible Accounting minor courses are each worth three credits, thus a total of six courses must be completed – three mandatory courses, and the remaining three can be chosen from seven available courses.

International students must submit a score of at least 500 on the written TOEFL exam, 173 on the computer-based exam, or 61 or better on the web-based exam. Depending on your status as an American or international student, and before factoring in living costs, you can expect to pay upwards of USD $20,870 for the MAcc program, or USD $9,000 - $18,000 per academic year as an undergraduate student.
