The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program at George Brown College
This article introduces the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program offered by George Brown College.
For international students, pursuing a higher degree in another country is already challenging, let alone studying in a second language. To help international students improve their English proficiency and help them better engage in classes, some universities and colleges provide international students with different programs to improve their English.
George Brown College’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is a post-secondary program that helps international students learn English, not only for post-secondary study but also for future employment and a better life in Canada. George Brown College offers international students a supportive environment to study English and make friends from all over the world. Additionally, the EAP programs also help international students to make full use of the English environment through co- and extra-curricular events and workshops.
Program overview
George Brown College offers nine different levels of EAP programs, from beginner to advanced, to cater to different students’ needs. Each level is taught for 8 weeks, and one semester includes two levels. To determine which level to start with, international students can either take a level-placement test at George Brown College or take an English proficiency test, such as IELTS (Academic), TOEFL (iBT), and submit the score before the program starts.
