The University of Toledo has undergone many changes in its long history. First founded in 1872 as the Toledo University of Arts and Trades, then re-established in 1884 as the Toledo Manual Training School, then Toledo University in 1914, and finally as the public school it has been since 1967.

The main campus is located in the Ottawa neighbourhood of Toledo, Ohio not far from the picturesque Lake Erie.
